Quarta-Feira De Cinzas by Rivane Neuenschwander and Cao Guimarães – thoughts and feelings

Quarta-Feira De Cinzas by Rivane Neuenschwander and Cao Guimarães

This piece immediately caught my eye and ear. It’s such a wonderful display of ants in their natural habitat. The colours and visuals are beautiful. The sounds are incredibly well recorded and sound amazing, it’s somehow very rhythmic. It has a beat and rhythm to it. This piece is recorded with, what I believe to be, contact microphones. These microphones allowed for the capturing of the noises we are able to hear.

I was drawn to this piece because of the uniqueness of the visual and audio. I can very confidently say that, before this piece, I had never heard the sound of ants carrying colourful beads before. It’s always nice to hear something that I’ve never heard before, It nice to have new, exciting experiences.

I really likes that these sounds are quite quiet, it adds more meaning with the context. The context being; the remains of a festival. It’s interesting to imagine the difference between the atmospheres: during the festival and after. All the noise, lights and atmosphere have all disappear and we are left with a relaxing slow mood.
