Coming up with the idea:
in our first lesson with Ingrid, we went over the unit assignment and requirements for the unit. We made a padlet where we all shared our interests, current ways of making pieces and a link to a compilation we enjoyed. this allowed for us all to understand our personal aesthetics better and made us start thinking about how to curate the track compilation.
In this lesson, we also assigned specific roles to different people. this was done by people volunteering. The roles and who they went to is below.
Bandcamp/Soundcloud account creators/holders: Saia, Mario, Evaneh.
Artwork: Robin
The curating sequence of tracks: Kiana, Lucas, Tata.
We all started having subject conversations when the key roles in the classroom were allocated. Evaneh initiated the conversations by stating that she, Kiana, and Robin had discussed the topic for the tracks and how to ensure that everyone, regardless of skill set or interests, could contribute. It is preferable to keep the topic vague/open rather than limiting it down to something that certain individuals may not love. The entire class ultimately opted on “stepping out of comfort zones.” It was tough for me to choose a topic because I am not comfortable with many things. I opted to explore the sounds of the underground after much thought. Because I have hyperacusis, the shrieking of the tube makes me feel uncomfortable.
