Creative Sound Projects 1Year 1

First draft + Feedback

In our final lesson with Ingrid, we were asked to show what we had made so far. I had not yet properly started editing so was only able to show my very first draft. For my first draft, I spent an afternoon on the 10th of March going from Elephant & Castle to Harrow & Wealdstone recording the uncomfortable to listen to noises. I then listen to each recording for the most fitting noises and edited them together into one 2-minute WAV file. These recordings were taken on my phone and edited together originally using an online audio editor called AudioMass, this was due to the fact that I did not own Protools. We played our pieces over the speakers in M108 and then received feedback from both Ingrid and our fellow classmates.

My original recording that was presented to the class: “Bakerloo Line recording”

I was told by Ingrid that it was a good first draft and the floor was open for others to speak. Miles said that “the underground naturally has a rhythm to it, like a song. It would be good if you could add reverb to make the sounds a bit more dynamic and highlight that rhythm and musicality.” Lucas said that “It’d be very interesting if you could pan the sounds, just to make it sound interesting.” I took these into consideration and found listening to the other pieces very helpful
